Down the hall Gerri met with her assistant and nephew, Theron, from the Wildwoods pack. “How did that go, Aunt Gerri?” He gave a little snort.

“As expected. We’ll have to keep a close eye on those two. Thanks for coming all this way to help out.” Hard to believe Theron was related to her. The rough, six-foot-four young man stood almost a foot and a half taller than she. With his impressive muscular body and mass of tattoos, he looked more like her bodyguard. He was indeed the alpha mate in his triad with Connor and Talia.

“My pleasure.” He gave her that half crooked smile that always melted her heart. The same smile she remembered well when he’d misbehaved as a child.

“Connor and Talia are well? I haven’t seen them in ages. Bring them next time.”

“They are fine and send you their best. They couldn’t leave. Turmoil within the clan has kept our elders busy. Connor and Talia are helping.”

Although she wanted to ask more, he clearly didn’t want to speak of it at the moment and Gerri had too much on her mind.

She squeezed his hand. “I’m confident they’ll work it out. I have several concerns surrounding this upcoming event, and I need your help. With all the various clans coming to this event, I’m worried there might be a few too many alpha males in one room. I had hoped a couple extra Earth women might distract them, but they’re more trouble than I had expected.” Gerri placed her hands over her cheeks. “This should be a celebration of peace among the kingdoms. But I’ve heard rumors that some clan members don’t want the two princes completing the triune. They believe the formation of the Oracle and the power created, will upset the balance and destroy peace.”

“There might be something to that.”

They walked outside and stood on a balcony overlooking the courtyard. A long line of workers carried boxes, flowers, furniture and other items into the castle in preparation for the ball. “Do you believe in the legacy, Theron? Does the Wildwoods pack believe?”

He didn’t answer for a long time. “It’s an ancient legend. Both Prince Kyril and Prince Tovin do have the power to see the future. They’re not always accurate. Some of their predictions have come true, like the recent death of a bearshifter and his pregnant mate during an avalanche. Many from my pack do believe in the Oracle, and some are concerned.”

Gerri sighed. “That’s what I’m afraid of. I’ve planned for two males from the Rivelin Valley clan to keep Serena and her mother busy during the ball. I want you to keep them away from Athena and the princes. The duke’s guards should keep any other trouble under control.”

Theron tilted his head in that way Gerri knew well when her nephew didn’t approve of something. “Why did you bring those two here when you know they don’t like Athena?”

“My dear nephew, they hate Athena. They’ve been messing up her love life for years and interfering with her life.
